As a person I have always enjoyed reading and writing. My favorite type of books I like to read are
mysteries, real life stories, and romance stories. I love reading on my own time with books I
enjoy. On the other hand, when it came
to a teacher picking a book for me that I was not interested in I absolutely
didn’t enjoy reading then. I also have
trouble with comprehension therefore that would hold me back sometimes. One book I had to read in high school was “Night”. I did not understand the book at all and
there were too many words I didn’t know.
When I came across a word I didn’t know the teachers would tell me to
try and figure out the meaning of the word and then if I couldn’t to just skip
it. How do I understand a book when
there are too many words I don’t know?
Also when I didn’t enjoy reading the book it was hard to focus on what
was happening in the book. Then after I
had to write a text based essay which I didn’t enjoy writing. Writing text based essays were not my
favorite type of writing because they were hard for me and I felt like I was
stuck in a hole and I could not be creative.
Creative writing was my type of writing because I didn’t have to
understand a book to write the piece and I can connect it to my life more
easily. Music in my Life was one essay I
wrote in high school that I enjoyed writing.
This piece of writing had memories from my life and I would connect each
memory with a song. Writing this piece
was fun and it helped me get all my feelings out. As I grew up my sister and I always loved to
play school. When we would play school
she would be the teacher and I would be the student and I would write
stories. I have had a lot of experience
with reading and writing and even though I have some weaknesses in both of
those areas I don’t let those weaknesses keep me from reading and writing.
Thanks for all of the information. You express yourself very well. I think it's very common to feel more comfortable writing about your own experience, which is part of the reason we start with the memoir. but it's going to be important in college to be able to write about things you've read as well. Hopefully this class, with a theme you know and care about, will be a good transition.
